Karen Grady, a first-grade teacher at Ware Elementary School, has been named the 2026 Virginia Regional Teacher of the Year for Region 5 by the Virginia Department of Education. Grady has been a teacher and a mentor for 25 years.   We congratulate her on this great achievement! Mrs. Grady is the fourth Staunton City Schools teacher to win this award since 2020.

Congratulations to [Karen Grady](https://bit.ly/4gTeH3g), our 2024-25 Division Teacher of the Year, and [Debbie Bryd](https://bit.ly/3CckAt9), our 2024-25 Division Support Person of the Year, both from Ware Elementary School. Mrs. Grady is a first-grade teacher, and Mrs. Byrd is the school's bookkeeper.

The Staunton School Board celebrated their excellence and devotion to serving our students and families at the January 13 school board meeting. We appreciate their positive and lasting impact on our learning community!

Division Teacher and Support Person of the Year Announced

Staunton City Schools (SCS) is pleased to announce the 2024-2025 Teachers of the Year and Support Staff of the Year. 

Seven teachers and seven support staff members were selected through peer nominations. Staff members voted for one Teacher of the Year and one Support Staff Person of the Year in their school or department. A committee then chose one honoree in each category.

The following staff were honored at the school board meeting on December 9, and a Staunton Lions Club representative presented each of them with a token of appreciation:

Staunton City Schools (SCS) is pleased to announce all of Staunton's schools are fully accredited, based on the 2023-2024 SOL data just released by the Virginia Department of Education.

Over the past six years, SCS has shown significant improvement, climbing 62 places in state rankings, the highest level of improvement in SOL results compared to any other school division in Virginia from 2018 to 2023. Out of 131 Virginia school divisions, SCS is now ranked 43rd in the state based on 2023-2024 SOL data, placing it among the top one-third of divisions in the state for student achievement.

Walk for Kindness on Oct. 5th

I'm walking for kindness, kindness matters walkathon 2024

Staunton City Schools and Waynesboro Public Schools are working together to proudly showcase the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our learning communities. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand, there will be a variety of school-sponsored activities, including hands-on art experiences, a Latin salsa band, giveaways and free books. Plus, enjoy food and retail vendors on site. We hope you’ll celebrate with us!

Celebrating our Many Cultures

Staunton City Schools is considering **supplementary curriculums** to include during Family Life education to address various topics from the Family Life standards, helping students to understand how to make informed choices and avoid high-risk behaviors, including information about human trafficking. These curriculums will be available for public review at the Staunton City Schools Central Office through **Monday, September 9, 2024**. Community members are welcome to make an appointment during office hours to look at the materials and leave written feedback.  Please contact us by phone at 540-332-3920 to make an appointment.

Junior /Senior Prom 2025 - April 26th 7:00 at Blackburn Inn - If you plan to bring an outside guest, forms are in the front office.  **These forms are due back to the school by Wednesday,  April 23rd at 3:30****.** 

Senior Walk and Prom Court will begin at 9PM.


Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from Avoli-Miller room 302.  Please make checks payable to Staunton High School or bring cash for tickets.

Returning Student Registration\
Registration for your returning SCS student(s) is required, and the online registration link is now available for you to use. It is very important that we have up-to-date information for your student, so please take a few minutes to review your information and update it as needed. Even if you have no changes, please review your student's information and confirm that it is correct.\
You should access the online registration system, LINQ, at https://bit.ly/register_scs. You may also access the registration link on the Staunton City Schools website, under “Registration.” If you do not have a LINQ account please contact your student(s) school in order to receive an access code for your student.\
Some changes, such as an address or custody change, will require you to provide additional documentation directly to your student’s school. Please contact your child’s school directly for more information regarding this.\
If you have any questions regarding this process, or if you are unable to complete the online registration, please contact your student’s school or the Staunton School Board Office at (540) 332-3920.

The Storm Marching Band recently placed 2nd and won Best Music in Class A at the JMU Parade of Champions. Last month, they performed in the Blast in the Draft competition at Stuarts Draft High School and won 1st place overall in Class A, 1st place in music and visual, 2nd place in general effect, and 3rd in percussion and color guard.
